The program began July 1, 2022 and was originally offered to students who live on campus. It quickly became apparent once the number was publicized that calls were coming in 24/7 and from everyone.

Afterhours Crisis Program has 4 crisis specialist counselors trained to provide emergency support to individuals in crisis. They have handled around 1,500 calls each year and carry a small caseload of repeat callers needing support.

Calls vary from students with anxiety, panic attacks, thoughts of suicide, urges to self-harm, and relationship distress. Crisis specialists are prepared to respond to any phone call, even a freshman student lost on campus or an off-campus community partner who needs resources. Afterhours supports the WSU Police Department when they have mental health calls and consult with faculty, staff and parents who need direction for students in crisis.

Staff include:

  • Sheila Lewis, M.A., L.P.C.
  • Anne Di lorio-Fitzpatrick, L.M.S.W.
  • Mara Furlich, L.M.S.W.
  • Lenette Wood, M.A., L.P.C.
  • Patricia Dixon, L.M.S.W., Associate Director
